A New Year means new beginnings and fresh starts, and there’s no better time than the present to make some changes to your interiors to usher in 2020 in a vibrant and positive way. Below are five ideas that are easy to implement, easy on the wallet, and easy on the eyes. Here’s to a fantastic new decade of design!
One of the fastest and simplest ways to give your room an automatic facelift is to choose a plain wall and turn it into a feature wall. A new coat of paint will do the trick. Why not try Pantone’s Color of the Year Classic Blue? This is a project that you can do in a day if you’re into DIY, and it will completely change the feel of the room. Another option is to do a feature wall using wallpaper. It’s a painless way to try a bold pattern or luxe texture. Just make sure you find a qualified technician who can install it seamlessly, and voila! You will have a brand-new room.
If you’ve spent more money than you planned over the holidays and don’t have the funds for a big make-over project don’t despair. Try this small change to still have a big impact in your home: Choose a stone or metallic bathroom accessories set, and get rid of all the bottles of soap and shampoo sitting on your shelves still in their plastic containers. This will automatically create a uniform look to the room, and give it a spa-like feel. Stores like Bed, Bath & Beyond and Target have come a long way over the years, and now have some really well-designed accessories for the bathroom.
One of my favorite up-cycling tricks for my clients is to keep their bedside tables or sideboards, but give them a new lease on life by attaching a piece of granite, marble or quartz on top. There are hundreds of colors to choose from, so you can really spice up a dull side table with a luxurious piece of stone. It’s a quick change that will make it look like you have a completely new piece of custom furniture. Measure the size that you need, and then visit a kitchen store or wholesaler; they can cut a piece to the exact size that you need.
If you make one resolution in 2020, let it be that you won’t keep that bare bulb or boring plain light fixture on your living, dining, or bedroom ceiling for one more minute. A room with the proper ceiling light will feel pulled-together and designed right. Since there are so many thousands of options to choose from, I know that the decision can be overwhelming, so start by narrowing down your choices: Decide whether you want something simple or more ornate. Then look around the room and see what metal tones are already in place; choose a light fixture that complements them. Once you have made these decisions, set a price range and stick with it. Now you’re ready to check out some online shops using these parameters. Happy shopping!
I’m making a big push in 2020 to create rooms for my clients that give them spaces where they can retreat and find peace and happiness. The world is a crazy place, and I truly want their homes to be oases from their hectic day-to-day. You can do the same for yourself! Start with your bedroom; this should be a place where you love to go and spend time. One of the easiest ways to make this transformation happen is to change/add a headboard to your bed. Pick one that is upholstered so that it encourages you to sit and read and relax, do some meditation, or cuddle up with your loved ones. Choose a fabric that is plush and sumptuous to create that 5-star hotel feel. And remember to think about the finishing details like choosing a frame in a luxe brushed gold or deep mahogany colored wood to complete the well-appointed look.
So there you have it-five easy changes in a range of price points to update your home for the New Year. Wishing you much prosperity and joy in 2020!
